Apart from a Prestige system where you level up and thus gain access to better contracts, this mode is a succession of race weekends without any management aspects or side activities, not counting the ten extra challenges of course. Other than that, this Career mode is actually a pretty bare bones affair compared to what other racing games like WRC, F1 or even MotoGP present us with. In Career mode, these tracks come in the form of additional challenges, which are complemented by a number of fictional tracks based on the free-roam area in the game.

That’s right, and fortunately Milestone has found a solution for this by adding four so-called legacy tracks, being Ottobiano (Italy), Ernée (France), Leon (Mexico) and Agueda (Portugal). I can already hear you thinking, twelve tracks, that’s not that many. As expected, the game includes the twelve official circuits, as well as all the riders, bikes and teams of the 2021 season to indulge in, which is of course the wet dream of any fan of the sport. MXGP 2021 - The Official Motocross Videogame lets you (re)experience the thrill of last year’s championship, both online and through one of the various single player modes. Moreover, since 2014 there is also a championship for women and the MX3 category has disappeared. All these races take place in two categories, being the regular MXGP Championship and the MX2 which is basically the rookie championship. Due to the Corona pandemic, the weekend structure did get revised, with everything taking place on one day, and there were also fewer races this year.

These races take a special form because during a grand prix there will be two races, with each race being thirty minutes plus two laps long.

Like in Formula One, the championship is run in several Grand Prix, each taking up a weekend with free practice sessions, qualifying sessions and the race itself.

In MXGP you get on your dirtbike as usual to race on different off-road tracks from all over the world. The biggest question with annual releases though, is of course to what extent the game is sufficiently innovative to justify a purchase. Since Monster Energy Supercross 4 was a rather disappointing affair, I was curious how the latest iteration of the MXGP franchise would turn out, as I’m personally more of a fan of this championship than its American counterpart. Now, we get to hop on our bike again and relive the FIM Motocross World Championship with MXGP 2021: The Official Motocross Videogame. Ealier this year, Milestone brought us the official video game of the AMA Supercross Championship with Monster Energy Supercross 4: The Official Videogame 4.
